10 Questions to answer before buying a garage door...

1. Warranty on the door. Is the company confident enough in its product to offer a comprehensive warranty longer than 12 months?
   
2. Warranty on the Automatic Opener. Is the company confident enough in its product to also offer a comprehensive warranty on the opener longer than 12 months?
   
3. Is the company you are buying from experienced in the industry? Will they be around in the future if you have to claim on either warranty?
   
4. Quality of the Installation. Do they also have the experience to install the doors and automatic openers correctly?
   
5. Garage door automatic openers should be serviced every year to keep them running smoothly. Is the installation company also able to service the opener for you each year?
   
6. Quality of the door. For Steel Doors, how thick is the steel used? If the gauge is too light, the door may ripple or dent easily.
   
7. For Timber Doors, look for the use of first grade timbers and ensure that the fittings are suited to the extra weight of timber doors.
   
8. Does the sales person understand your needs? Have they offered you any the additional products that will enhance the use of your door? E.g. additional remotes, a wireless keypad, or an emergency release system.
   
9. Make sure the door is made in New Zealand. Reduce the impact on the environment by buying New Zealand made only.
   
10. Most importantly, are you buying the right door package for your needs or are you just choosing the cheapest? Remember a garage door is a long term investment.
